During the Gymnastics sessions the club leaders will develop the children’s balance, co-ordination, strength and flexibility. We start our session with a thorough warm up, working on developing the core and limbering the legs and back.
The children will then work on tumbling and acrobatic skills – forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands and bridges. This will also include the use of apparatus such as floor beams, mini trampette and bench/box top work to develop their jumps, leaps and other shapes. The children will also be working on their acrobatics skills which will help them to develop partnership and group work, as well as help them to develop their strength with basic balances and lifts.
Along with their tumbling and acrobatic skills the children will also spend one session of each half term working on their British Gymnastics Core Proficiency Award Scheme. The scheme assists in the progressive development of core skills such as balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination and incorporates compulsory pulse raising activities. There are 10 types of activity and 8 levels of attainment.
Once children aged 11 years & upwards have completed the British Gymnastics Core Proficiency Award Scheme, they will move on to ‘The Advanced Proficiency Gymnastics Award Scheme’, it assists in the development of Core fitness (Strength, power, flexibility, co-ordination) and gymnastics skills for the coaching of more advanced skills for use in clubs, schools and leisure centres. The scheme offers a range of activities including Fitness, Floor, Vault & Rebound, Apparatus, Pairs & Groups, Hand Held Apparatus and Dance & Aerobics. It broadly underpins development work for Grades, the Next Step Competition Framework and National Development Programmes.
